How to Take Care of a Broken, Chipped or Cracked Tooth

Breaking a tooth can happen instantly: You could be playing ball and get hit in the face; you could fall and hit your jaw; you can run into an object that’s misguidedly placed at face-level. Sometimes, breaks, chips or cracks occur because the teeth were already weak to begin with, and other times, they occur because an old filling went bad.

No matter how a break, chip or crack occurs though, the result is always the same: The patient is left feeling embarrassed, uncomfortable and in varying degrees of pain.

But don’t worry, at our practice, we can repair the damage quickly and effectively. Here are some ways that we do so:

·     With a polish to smooth out rough spots (done for minor cracks and chips)

·     With a filling material or crown (done for major cracks)

·     With an inlay or crown (done for a broken cusp)

·     With a root canal and crown (done for serious breaks where the root is exposed and a split tooth)

·     Tooth removal (done for vertical breaks or a split root)
