Baseballs Break Teeth – Protect Your Child’s

Baseball season is finally upon us, and while I absolutely love the sport, I know first hand how dangerous it can be—especially to your oral health! That being said, I cannot stress enough how important it is for your child to wear a mouth guard, both at practice and during games!

Baseball may not be the most physical sport, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t constant risk to your child’s dental health while they’re out on that field. Think about it:

·     When they’re at bat, they have a rock-hard object zooming past their face. In fact, sometimes, when a wild pitch is thrown, it zooms right AT their face.

·     If your child plays in the in-field, they’ll face line drives and hurried throws

·     No matter what position your child play, they’ll always have to put themselves under pop-flies and field grounders—which are notorious for bouncing!

I love baseball as much as the next person—in fact, I coach both of my boys’ teams—so I’m not trying to scare you away from it, but rather, to make you aware of the dangers.

Using a good mouth guard is a small price to pay for the protection of your child’s forming/just formed smile. Don’t hazard their smile just because you want to save a few extra bucks, or because “mouth guards aren’t cool.” In the long run, a mouth guard can end up saving you a lot of money, and your child the discomfort and/or embarrassment caused by missing teeth.
