Get Money Back for Your Dental Crown, Or Donate It—Your Choice!

Getting a dental crown placed is relatively expensive, especially if you get a gold or silver crown put in. A person should expect to pay anywhere from $600 to $2000 per restoration, which is a hefty sum, especially considering the whole process could easily have been prevented. However, there is good news…All gold crowns placed by a dentist are 10 to 22 karat, making them 40 to a little over 80% gold. And all silver crowns are made of 60% noble metal (gold, platinum and/or palladium), of which at least 40% is gold. These alloys can be broken down to make what is known as “white gold.” And, as you know, gold has a value of approximately $1000 per ounce.

What Is the Value of My Crown?

The average dental crown weighs in at 2 to 3 grams, or one tenth of an ounce.

·      If the crown's gold alloy is 10 karat, its precious metal value might be as much as $40.

·      If the crown's gold alloy is 22 karat, its precious metal value could be as much as $80.

What Can I Do With My Dental Crown?

At Lakeshore Family Dentistry, we always let you know of your crown’s value when you either a) have it removed or b) it falls out. We give you the option of taking it with you and scrapping the metal, which many patients are happy to do, as they see it as receiving a portion of their $600-$2000 back. However, we also give you the option of donating your crowns, which we then donate to the local food shelf. This is another popular option, and one that many individuals benefit from.

At Lakeshore Family Dentistry, we believe in contributing to our community whenever and wherever possible, because we understand that it’s our community members who helped us to become the dental practice we are today. If you want to give back to your community, and if you’re in need of a crown removal, give us a call at 651-429-3348 or visit http://www.lakeshorefamilydentist.com/ to see how you can help.
